Big weekend in Washington, D.C.! The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden’s Ragnar Kjartansson show opened this morning to the public, after a rollicking opening reception and dinner last night. That’s just steps away from the East Building of the National Gallery of Art, which reopened a few weeks ago after three years of extensive renovations.   And then on U Street here in D.C., at the historic Lincoln Theatre, the 2016 Creative Time Summit, an annual conclave of art lovers involved in social justice that alights in a different city each year, is in session. EARLY BASQUIAT WORKS, NEVER SHOWN IN PUBLIC, WILL BE ON VIEW AT X CONTEMPORARY FAIR DURING MIAMI BASEL

X Contemporary, a Miami Basel satellite fair, announced today that one of its exhibitors, Brooklyn’s Bishop Gallery, will show a collection of never-before-exhibited early works by Jean-Michel Basquiat at its next edition, which runs at the Nobu Hotel in Miami Beach from November 30 through December 4.   The pieces, which includes paintings, collages, and drawings, were made by Basquiat between 1979 and 1981 in the Manhattan apartment of his friend Lonny Lichtenberg, and will be curated for the fair by the artist’s onetime collaborator, Al Diaz. The Museo Nacional de Arte presents the exhibition "Otto Dix: Violencia y pasión"

MEXICO CITY.- The Secretaría de Cultura presents, as part of some of the most important activities of the Dual Year Mexico- Germany, the exhibition Otto Dix Violencia y pasión a display organized by the Museo Nacional de Arte INBA (MUNAL), the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey (MARCO) and the Goethe-Institut Mexiko.    The exhibition, designed specifically to be presented in Mexico under the original curatorship of the Dr. Ulrike Lorenz, Director of the Kunsthalle Mannheim, has more than 160 pieces, among them paintings, engravings, watercolors and drawings are highlighted. NEW YORK, NY.- In September 1930, Everett Gee Jackson published a short treatise on modern art. In “Modernism Without Apologies,” Jackson noted, “Form is the material of modernists. . . . It is the contention of the modernist that, by the arrangement of forms, colors and lines considered abstractly, one may possibly express objectively his emotional reaction to experiences with nature.”    Jackson’s own path to modernism was steered and accelerated by a 1923 student visit to Guadalajara, Mexico.
